Hourly rate calculator – what should you charge per hour?
Tell the calculator how much you want on your account each month, and it tells you what to charge per hour. It covers Keikkalasku’s service fees, the health insurance contribution (sairausvakuutusmaksu) and withholding tax.
Net pay after tax.
E.g. tools, phone, travel – expenses you don’t invoice the customer for separately.
Only hours you bill to customers. Sales, travel and admin are usually not billable time.
The withholding rate on your tax card. Check yours at vero.fi.
Pre-filled with the 2026 minimum contribution, without the discount for starting entrepreneurs. Get an estimate of your own contribution from the YEL calculator.

How is the hourly rate calculated?
The calculator starts from the amount you want on your account and works backwards: it adds your own expenses, withholding tax, the health insurance contribution if you have YEL insurance, and the per-invoice service fee. Finally, the month’s invoicing is divided by your billable hours.
The most common mistake is dividing your target pay by 160 hours. Few gig workers bill every hour they work – time also goes into sales, travel, preparation and quiet weeks. So count only the hours that actually end up on an invoice.
What else should your price account for?
- Holidays and sick days: they are unpaid, so spread your annual target over 10–11 months.
- YEL contribution: if you have YEL, the self-employed pension insurance, tick it in the calculator and enter your monthly contribution. You can get an estimate from the YEL calculator.
- Going rate in your field: the calculator tells you what you need – the market tells you what you get.
Want to check a single gig? The salary calculator shows how much of a given invoice you keep. You’ll find all the calculators under tools.
The calculation is an indicative estimate. It uses Keikkalasku’s service fees (€5 for invoices up to €100, otherwise €10) and the 2026 health insurance contribution. Your final tax is determined in your tax assessment.
